Madrid and Malaga

In our on-going commitment to staying up to date with the latest industry developments and to constantly improve our knowledge of our client’s key global markets, HotelRes was delighted to be able to attend a 3-day FAM trip to Madrid and Malaga. We were hosted by Hotel Republic, the UK representation firm working on behalf of ILUNION Hotels (previously Confortel).

ILUNION has 25 predominantly business focused properties, spread across all of Spain’s major destinations, each of which is 4* rated. On this occasion we were lucky enough to visit a selection of their hotels in Madrid and Malaga.

Arriving in Madrid airport at around midday on Friday, it was a short 20-minute transfer from Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez Airport to our first location, Hotel ILUNION Atrium, Madrid. Located in the heart of Madrid’s main financial and business district, this 10-year-old property is situated exactly half way between the city centre and the airport. An ideal location for business travellers.

Immediately upon arrival, it’s clear to see why this is a popular hotel for conferencing and business travel. A very contemporary, clean and crisp aesthetic, excellent bedrooms of a great size, and a dedicated floor of highly flexible meeting rooms, all of which benefit from masses of natural daylight flooding through floor to ceiling glass walls and high ceilings. The single, large conference room can be broken down into a combination of up to 4 smaller rooms, each of which can accommodate around 50 in theatre style. The conference rooms enjoy direct access to an outdoor terrace area and have their own separate access from the lobby.

Meeting Rooms: 5 (Max capacity in theatre style: 225)
Swimming pool, gym, restaurant, outdoor terrace and car park

Next up we saw the ILUNION Suites Madrid, slightly more focused towards the leisure market, however still brilliantly equipped with excellent meeting facilities, the light and airy lobby is a welcoming entrance to the property. Unfortunately, a prestigious event being held by one of the local universities meant we were unable to see all of the meeting rooms. However, what we did see was impressive. Once again, flexibility and light are the key descriptors here. With bedrooms undergoing a rolling renovation.

Restaurant.

Before moving on to Malaga, a city tour of Madrid’s historic centre and a dinner at the world famous Corral de la Moreria, where we were treated to an incredible live flamenco performance. A few drinks in local bars, then it was off to bed for a good night’s sleep before taking the high speed train to Malaga.

Upon arrival, it was a short 5-minute walk to the ILUNION Malaga Hotel. A truly stunning property with almost a 5* feel, located right on the sea front, minutes from the heart of Malaga old town. 10 minutes down the road is the Malaga Automobile and fashion museum, a stunning space for exhibitions and conferencing.
